Rancho Cucamonga, CA- 2005 Quakes' shortstop Brandon Wood broke the Arizona Fall League home run record Saturday.
Wood's 13th home run for the Surprise Scorpions assisted in an 11-9 win over the Grand Canyon Rafters. Number 13 marked a single-season AFL record, previously set at 12 by Tagg Bozied (Padres) in 2002. The home run was hit off of Marlins pitcher, Nic Ungs.
During the 2005 regular season Wood broke the Quakes' single-season home run record with 43, previously set by Vince Moore at 39. Wood earned MVP of the California League, received honors by Topps (in conjunction with Minor League Baseball) for Minor League Player of the Year and was named Co-Player of the Year along with Howie Kendrick for the Angels' organizational awards.
The AFL season will conclude for the Scorpions November 10 vs. the Javelinas.
