Hooks announce 2006 schedule

November 2, 2005 - Texas League (TL1)
Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) - The 2006 Texas League schedule has been released, and the Hooks will begin their second season at home against their I-37 rivals, the San Antonio Missions, on Thursday, April 6th. That afternoon's event will mark the beginning of a nine-game home stand to open the 2006 campaign for the Hooks.

"This past season, we opened with nine games on the road, which built even more excitement into our first-ever game at Whataburger Field," stated Hooks' President J.J. Gottsch. "But in 2006, we won't have to wait for anything, and it should be a fun experience to have the season opener here in Corpus Christi. And while we're in the early planning stages for much of the schedule, we want to emphasize the fact that our April 6th season opener will be a day game in the tradition of Opening Day games from years past in cities like New York, Boston and Chicago. We want to make this Opening Day a big event and we plan to do all we can to make it special for our fans."

The 2006 schedule will feature a total of 32 weekend dates, including 12 Fridays and 11 Saturdays. Hooks' fans will want to make sure to frame the month of June, when the club will welcome five different opponents to the Sparkling City for a total of 19 games.

"We'll have two more Friday dates than we had this year, and the same number of Saturdays, plus we'll have some new promotional and giveaway nights," added Hooks' General Manager Ken Schrom. "One of our new giveaways is a series of Astros' figurines, which will include the likes of Jeff Bagwell, Roger Clemens and Nolan Ryan."

Additional new promotions in the works include baseball gloves and "Sammy the Seagull" bobblehead doll giveaways for kids; an Astros' throwback cap, beach towels and Hooks' commemorative footballs for adults; and an appearance in early June by the "Blues Brothers." Other very popular promotions, like Friday Fireworks, Thirsty Thursdays, Whataburger Fan Day, and the giveaway nights for Hooks' replica home and road caps will remain on the home schedule. "Plus," says Schrom, "we'll toss in a few surprises along the way."

The 70-game home slate features 14 games each against division foes San Antonio, Midland and Frisco, plus seven games apiece against the four clubs from the new "Northern" division (Tulsa, Wichita, Arkansas and Springfield). The Hooks, Missions, RockHounds and RoughRiders will comprise the "Southern" division in 2006. From 1968 through 2005, the Texas League's eight clubs were split into "Eastern" and "Western" divisions.

Corpus Christi's longest home stand of the 2006 season will occur in June, when the Hooks play 12 games during a 13-day stretch from June 2nd through June 14th against Tulsa (3), Midland (4) and San Antonio (5). The longest road trip of the season will also be the team's first road trip of the season, a 10-gamer from April 16th through April 25th that will take the Hooks to Midland (5) and Frisco (5).

The 2006 Texas League All Star Game will take place Tuesday, June 20th, at Ray Winder Field in Little Rock, Arkansas. The league's oldest facility (in operation since the early 1930's) will serve its final year as the home for the Travelers, who are planning a move to a brand new stadium being constructed along the banks of the Arkansas River in North Little Rock.

Season ticket prices at Whataburger Field for 2006 will remain as they were in 2005. A full season ticket, which includes all 70 regular-season games, plus the pre-season exhibition against the Triple-A Round Rock Express (also new in 2006!), is $475, while the 20-game Friday Fireworks Plus package holds steady at $150 per seat. This coming season, the Friday Fireworks Plus package will include 12 Friday games plus the April 6th season opener against the Missions and seven additional fun-filled games.
