Lynx mourn passing of Kyle Schultz

Augusta Lynx News Release

It is with the deepest sadness the Augusta Lynx mourn the passing of former play-by-play announcer and public relations director Kyle Schultz.

Schultz, 41, was in his third season as the voice of the American Hockey League's Milwaukee Admirals, and had the pleasure of calling the team's first and only Calder Cup win in 2004.

In a career that spanned parts of 13 seasons, Schultz called games at the AHL, ECHL, and IHL levels, also winning a Turner Cup championship with the Utah Grizzlies in 1996. He became the second voice in Lynx history from 2001-2003, taking over for Jerry Canaan. Known for his enthusiastic and dramatic calls, Schultz was also a large part of the hockey fabric of Augusta, starting the adult hockey "B" league and awarding the Schultz Cup trophy to the winning team at the end of every season.

Schultz will also be forever remembered for his call of a brawl between the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks and Louisiana IceGators, which was featured on TLC's Sports Disasters show.

"The Lynx organization is deeply saddened by Kyle's passing," said Lynx general manager Rob Mueller. "During his time with the Lynx, Schultzie put an indelible stamp on the Augusta hockey community, both with his unmistakable voice and on-air presence, as well as with his contribution to local hockey programs in Augusta. He exuded his passion for hockey and life in general and made many friends in our community along the way. Our hearts and prayers are with Kyle's wife, Allison, his son Tanner, and his entire family."

Memorial service arrangements are expected to be announced in the near future.
