San Diego continues to make a difference off the ice

SAN DIEGO - It is early in the 2005-06 season and already community involvement is a priority for the San Diego Gulls. The players, staff, mascot and Gulls Girls will be making several appearances in the community this year.

Here's an updated list of some of the events the players and staff have attended:

Sept. 12: The Gulls' staff appeared at the "Fore Pete's Sake" fourth annual benefit golf tournament. Proceeds were donated to the QUAD foundation, a nonprofit organization that benefits quadriplegic survivors and their families.

Sept. 16: Baby Gull attended a luncheon hosted by the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of San Diego County.

Oct. 18: Jesse Bennefield and Andy Thompson attended a roller hockey practice at Kit Carson Park in Escondido. They helped during practice and acted as coaches during a scrimmage.

Oct. 22: Baby Gull and the Gulls Girls attended the Purple Campaign Launch Celebration to help fight child abuse and youth homelessness.

Here's a list of events that the Gulls will be participating in during the next few weeks. (There will be additions so make sure you check out the Gulls' web site (www.sandiegogulls.com) for updates

Oct. 30: The Gulls' assistant coach Jamie Black will be in-studio with 91x host Steve West for "Resurrection Sunday" from 11 a.m. to Noon. Oct. 31: American Assets, Inc. will be holding their annual "Trick-Or-Treat" event at Carmel Mountain Plaza from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aaron McKenzie, Alex Rogosheske, Baby Gull and the Gulls Girls will be there for a meet-and-greet session. Everyone will be available for autographs and pictures.

Nov. 1: The San Diego Gulls will be appearing live on Fox 6 with morning show reporter Ruben Galvin. There will be three different segments, promoting the Gulls' home opener and annual "Teddy Bear Toss."

Nov. 3: Gulls captain Jonathon Shockey will be chatting with 91x morning show host Chris Cantori at 10:15 a.m.

Nov. 3: Gulls head coach Martin St. Amour will be on the Mighty 1090's "Too Much Show" with Darren Smith and Philly Billy Werndl. "Too Much Show" airs Monday through Friday from Noon to 4 p.m.

Nov. 14: The San Diego Gulls and the Athletes for Education Foundation are hosting a celebrity golf tournament. All current Gulls players and staff members, past Gulls legends and local celebrities will be participating in the tournament, which will benefit the AFE Foundation's "Tickets for Tomorrow" mentorship program. #sdgulls#
