Columbia Inferno News Release
THE WEEK AHEAD Friday, October 28th vs. Charlotte Checkers 7:05pm Carolina Coliseum
This is the first meeting in regular season between the Checkers and Inferno. Columbia is 16-6-4 all time against the Checkers. This is the first out of 10 games for these two teams.
Saturday, October 29th @ Greenville Grrrowl Bi-Lo Center
The Inferno is 23-7-3 all-time against the Grrrowl. This is the first of 10 games between the Inferno and Grrrowl. The Inferno is 1-0-1 on the road.
Sunday, October 30th vs. South Carolina Stingrays 5:05pm Carolina Coliseum
This is the second meeting between the Stingrays and Inferno. Last game, the Inferno won in a shootout 5-4. The Inferno is 1-0-0 this season and 19-10-3 all-time against the Stingrays.
LAST WEEK Friday, October 21st COLUMBIA 4 Johnstown 2
The Columbia Inferno produced three goals in the third period to steal the win from the Johnstown Chiefs, 4-2. All six goal of the game were on the power play. Johnstown's Jason Spence started the scoring with a goal at 17:31 of the first period. Derek Eastman scored his first goal of the season at 3:10 of the second period assisted by Nick Greenough and Jay Legault. Randy Rowe scored at 13:47 to give the Chiefs a one-goal lead. Chanse Fitzpatrick tied the game at 1:59 with the first goal in the third period as he tipped in a shot from Eastman. Matt Hubbauer had the second assist. At 7:52, Leon Hayward scored off the rebound to take the lead with assists to Hubbauer and Greenough. Hubbauer scored the last goal of the game at 14:11 with help from Legault and Chris Cava. Goaltender Rob Gherson stopped 28 of 30 shots on goals for his first win of the season. The Inferno went 4-for-10 on the power play and was 6-for-8 on the penalty kill.
Saturday, October 22nd COLUMBIA 5 South Carolina 4 (SO)
The Columbia Inferno fought hard as they beat the South Carolina Stingrays 5-4 in a shootout. Dave Bonk scored on the power play at 3:04 of the first period with assists from Derek Eastman and Jay Legault. South Carolina's MacLean even the score at one with a power play goal at 6:22. Matt Hubbauer scored three minutes later to give the Inferno a one goal lead for the second time in the period. Bonk and Eastman had the assists. Spina tied the game for the Stingrays at 15:31 on another power play goal to end the period at 2-2. Chris Cava scored his first goal of the season at 7:05 of the second period; on the power play with help from F.P. Guenette to give Columbia the 3-2 lead. Chanse Fitzpatrick added Columbia's fourth goal with less than a minute left in the period. Nick Greenough had the assist. South Carolina tied the game in the third period to send the game into overtime. After a scoreless overtime period, the Inferno scored two goals to the Stingrays one in the shootout to take the divisional win.
Sunday, October 23rd Columbia 0 AUGUSTA 1 (OT)
The Columbia Inferno gained a point in the South Division standing as they lost to the Augusta Lynx 1-0 in overtime. Rob Gherson was between the pipes for the Inferno stopping 34 of 35 shots on goal.
