Steelheads off to a 3-0 start

October 24, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads have won their first three games of the season - something the team has only done twice before in nine openings (2001-02 won first five games; 2004-05 won first three games).

Leading up to the three-game series against Long Beach, head coach Derek Laxdal motivated his young team by reminding them that Long Beach knocked Idaho out of the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs last season. His tactic seemed to work. After a slow start and being down by two goals after the first 30-minutes of play on opening night, his offense gained momentum when defender Brian Fahey scored and lit a spark. Two more goals followed just a minute later and eight Steelheads went on to score 12 goals over the three games.

Idaho begins this week in first place in the young ECHL season with 6 points.
