Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have donated $1,000 scholarships to the Henry Wilson Elementary School for funds to establish a learning program, From Water To Ice: How Does Matter Change and to the Friends of Londonderry Hockey for the purchase of high school hockey equipment as part of their Investing In Our Youth grant program, the team announced on Thursday. Through the program, the Monarchs Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Monarchs, is able to award two different $1,000 scholarships each month. One of the scholarships goes to a deserving youth sports team. The other scholarship goes to a deserving school organization.
The Monarchs are currently taking applications for the program. Athletic and educational organizations are encouraged to apply. For an Investing In Our Youth grant application, visit www.monarchshockey.com and click on "In The Community" or contact Cheryl Abbott, the Monarchs Vice President of Community Affairs at (603) 626-7825, extension 6102.
The Henry Wilson Elementary School is a K-5 elementary school in the Manchester School District with a total enrollment of 505 students. The goal of the From Water To Ice: How Does Matter Change program is to teach second grade students about changes in matter. Funds will be put toward a computer, books and educational resources geared to teach students about this program.
The Friends of Londonderry Hockey is a non-profit organization formed six years ago to promote hockey within the town of Londonderry. The first mission of the organization was to establish an organized hockey team at the high school level. Having accomplished that goal, the Friends of Londonderry Hockey continue to support the program by providing coaches the ability to procure items outside the school budget. Londonderry High School is now home to two successful teams, a varsity team and a junior varsity team, both with rosters of 25 players.
