Whitley joins Lions

The BC Lions Football Club today announced they obtained cornerback James Whitley from the Montreal Alouettes in return for a 2006 CFL Draft pick.

"James will bring us some added experience to our defence, "said GM and Head Coach Wally Buono. "James has played in this league and we are pleased to add him to our roster."

Whitley, a 5-11, 192 lbs Cornerback, played in 9 games this season for the Alouettes and had 22 tackles, 3 knockdowns and 2 special teams tackles. James previously played for the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Rams of the NFL.

Whitley played in 6 games and registered one tackle with Carolina during 2004. In 2003 he played 3 games for St. Louis before heading to Green Bay where he also played in 3 games, including both their playoff games where he had 5 special teams tackles. During 2002 he played 13 games for St. Louis and in 2001 he played for the Montreal Alouettes.

Born in Decatur, Illinois, May 13, 1979 James attended Michigan where he studied Sports Management.

The BC Lions also announced today the signing of free agent Offensive Guard Zach Wilson. Zach was with the Denver Broncos during training camp in 2005 and with the Detroit Lions in 2003 and 2004. Wilson, 6-5, 302lbs., attended Southern California where he started four straight seasons for USC at Offensive Guard. He will be at the BC Lions Practice on Wednesday.

*BC LIONS WILL HOST PLAYOFF GAME*

BC Lions today announced the team will host a playoff home game. Tickets for the game will go on sale *Wednesday, October 19*.

The team has clinched a Western playoff berth. Depending on the outcome of the last games as well as results of opponents in the western conference the team will either play in the Scotiabank West Semifinal at home on November 13 or have a bye that week and play the Scotiabank West Championship November 20 at home.

Ticket prices for the playoff game start at $30 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster at 604-280-4400 or ticketmaster.ca.

The times of the Scotiabank Semifinals and Championships are still to be determined.

*The BC Lions will face off against the Winnipeg Bluebombers this Saturday October 22^nd at *7:00pm at BC Place Stadium, in their second last home game of the regular season. The Leo's are on the hunt for revenge after the Bombers handed them their third straight loss of the season on Thanksgiving.
