U.S. National under-18 team travels to play in hostile territory

THIS WEEK: The U.S. National Under-18 Team travels to upstate New York to play the Cornell Big Red (0-0-0) in Ithaca, N.Y. and the Clarkson Raiders (2-2) in Potadam, N.Y. Both teams compete in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hockey League.

U.S. HEAD COACH JOHN HYNES: John Hynes is in his third season with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. Cocah Hynes has spent time as an assistant coach at University of Massachuttes Lowell and the University of Wisconsin. Hynes was also a greaduate assistant coach at Boston University and with the NTDP. Hynes has amassed a career record with the NTDP of 75-36-6.

U.S. HEAD COACH JOHN HYNES ON THIS WEEKEND: "We are looking forward to the challenge of playing on the road against two extremely difficult teams in hostile enviroments to play in. These games and weekends do a great job of preparing us for our international competitions."

NATIONAL TEAM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ALUMNI UPDATE: University of Alaska Fairbanks goaltender, Wylie Rogers (Fairbanks, Alaska) led the Nanooks to a weekend victory (4-3 OT) over the top-ranked University of Minnesota, Rogers stopped 33 of 26 Gophers chances ... In the University of Michigan's 9-2 victory over Merrimack, at least one NTDP alumni either scored or assisted on all nine goals ... Nashville Predators rookie defenseman Ryan Suter (Madison, Wis.) recorded two assists against St. Louis on Saturday night ... As of today, the top four leading scorers in NCAA Division I are NTDP alumni (T.J. Hensick-Michigan, Matt Hunwick-Michigan, Brett Sterling-Colorado and Jack Johnson-Michigan) and two of the four are defenseman (Hunwick, Johnson)

ABOUT THE NTDP: Founded in 1997, USA Hockey's National Team Development Program was created to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and success in their future hockey careers. The program has been instrumental in capturing gold medals at the 2002 and 2005 IIHF World Under-18 Championships and the 2004 IIHF World Junior Championship. This past summer 15 NTDP alumni were selected in the NHL Entry Draft. In the seven years NTDP players have been eligible for the NHL draft, 107 players have been selected.

TIDBITS: Cornell is curently ranked number three in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine men's College Hockey poll... The NTDP has an overall record versus NCAA Division I teams of 38-50-15-2 for a winning percentage of .362 ... Based on this week's poll, the U.S. National Under-18 Team will face seven of the top fiftern ranked teams in the country during the 2005-06 season

LAST WEEKEND: The U.S. National Under-18 Team earned a split last weekendend at home versus two NCAA Division I opponents.
