Kitchener Rangers News Release
Kitchener, ON: Rangers Head Coach and General Manager Peter DeBoer announced this morning that the team has signed 2002 3rd round draft pick RW Matt Auffrey.
Auffrey joins the Rangers from the ranks of the NCAA where he was a member of the Wisconsin Badgers. Last season in his freshman year Auffrey scored 3 goals and added 5 assists in 25 games. During the season he got off to a quick start notching 4 points (2G, 2A) in his first four games before an injury forced him to miss 2 months.
Before joining the Badgers the skilled winger played 2 seasons with the U.S. National Team Developmental Program.
The Rangers drafted Auffrey in 2002 from the Syracuse Crunch (Jr. A) of the OPJHL. That season he scored 33 goals and added 39 assists, tops for rookies in the Eastern Conference.
