Destroyers add third franchise player

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Destroyers have signed six-year Arena Football League veteran, offensive/defensive lineman Kelvin Kinney as their third franchise player, team president David Paitson announced today. The club also has signed wide receiver/defensive back Lincoln Dupree (pronounced do-PREE) and wide receiver/linebacker Eddie Galles (pronounced GAILS). The latest three additions brings the Destroyers total of free agent signings to 18.

Kinney (6-7, 280, Virginia State) joins quarterback John Kaleo and offensive specialist Thabiti Davis as the teams' three franchise players. Kinney and Kaleo played together in 2003 with the ArenaBowl champion Tampa Bay Storm. In the championship game, Kinney recovered a fumble and returned it 26-yards for a key touchdown in Tampa Bay's 43-29 victory.

Kinney, who will enter his seventh season in the AFL in 2006, has recorded 77.5 tackles (62UT-31AT), nine tackles for a loss, 12 sacks, nine pass breakups, 18 quarterback hurries and one interception. He has added one safety, blocked one kick, forced six fumbles and recovered two fumbles. He has played for the Storm, as well as the San Jose SaberCats and Detroit Fury after he started his professional career in the NFL with the Washington Redskins. He also has played in the XFL and CFL.

Dupree (5-11, 195, Eastern Michigan) spent the past two seasons with the New York Dragons. In 2004, he caught 54 passes for 715 yards and 17 touchdowns. On defense, he had 28 tackles (24UT-8AT) with five pass breakups, an interception, a forced fumble and fumble recovery. He returned 39 kickoffs for 801 yards and two touchdowns as well as five missed field goals for 102 yards and a score.

Galles (6-2, 205, Northern Iowa) spent part of the 2005 season with the Los Angeles Avengers and had one pass reception for 13 yards. In 2004, Galles went to NFL training camp with the Cleveland Browns as a wide receiver. He was a two-year letterman at Northern Iowa, where he led the team in receiving as a senior in 2003. He caught 42 passes for 804 yards and four touchdowns.
