Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The owners of the Bank of America Centre and Idaho Steelheads Hockey Club today announced the hiring of Glenn Stanford as President to oversee the business operations of both organizations. Stanford assumes his position after serving as General Manager of St. John's Sports and Entertainment, Ltd., and Vice President of the St. John's Maple Leafs (American Hockey League -AHL) in Newfoundland, Canada.
With an extensive background in sports management, marketing and national entertainment events in his native St. John's, Stanford brings nearly 20 years of experience to Boise. His duties with St. John's Sports and Entertainment encompassed the business development of the St. John's Maple Leafs, Mile One Stadium and the St. John's Convention Centre. Stanford guided the St. John's Maple Leafs through its 14-year existence in the AHL (1991-2005) and was instrumental in building the Leafs into a model franchise in the world of minor professional sports. He also established the Maple Leafs Foundation, a non-profit arm of the St. John's hockey team, which has raised more than $1,500,000 for community charities.
"I am extremely excited to be moving to a great city and more importantly an organization with the reputation of both the Bank of America Centre and the Idaho Steelheads. I look forward to working with everyone within the organization, and becoming an integral part of the city of Boise," Stanford said.
A. J. Balukoff, representing Block 22 and Idaho Sports Properties - the parent companies of the downtown Boise arena and hockey team - said Stanford's experience and achievements impressed the owners. "We're very excited to have Glenn join our organizations. With his leadership, we will continue to move the arena forward as the premier professional sports venue in the region."
Stanford is the recipient of numerous awards and professional honors, including the 2005 Thomas Ebright Award for career contributions to the AHL, 2004 Canadian Special Olympics Sports Celebrities Festival National Volunteer of the Year, and one of Atlantic Canada's Top 50 CEOs. In 2002, Stanford was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for significant contributions to Canada.
Stanford, 48, and his wife Debbie are the parents of two teenage daughters Jessica and Melissa. He will assume his new duties immediately.

For 14 years, Glenn was clearly the point man for the Toronto Maple Leafs responsible for overseeing our very successful American Hockey League franchise. He took it upon himself to ensure we would be one of the most respected and successful franchises in the League. From the day-to-day business operations of our team including tickets sales, corporate partners, community relations and team logistics, he did it all. He was both a hands on, get it done type of manager but knew exactly when to let his management team have their say. Glenn is one of the most respected executives in the AHL. He was recognized with new numerous awards and appointments to key committees. As an individual, there are few that are more trustworthy or honest."
-Bob Hunter Senior Vice President Toronto Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment
