Chicago Rush News Release

The Rush added some talent on the offensive side of the ball when it announced today the signing of quarterback Nick Rolovich to a two-year contract and offensive specialist Bo Smith to a three-year deal.

"With Raymond Philyaw a free agent and our quarterback situation in flux, we plan to bring several quarterbacks to training camp in January," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "Nick is an outstanding player who has spent the last two years learning from one of the best QBs in the Arena Football League. We plan on him competing for our starting job."

Rolovich (6-1, 200, Hawaii) comes to Chicago after spending the past two seasons in San Jose as the backup to All-Arena QB Mark Grieb. In limited playing time, Rolovich completed 13 of 30 passes for 148 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Prior to joining the SaberCats, Rolovich enjoyed an outstanding senior season at the University of Hawaii. After taking over as the starter for an injured Timmy Chang, Rolovich passed for 3,361 yards and 34 touchdowns in leading the Warriors to an 8-1 record in his nine starts. Rolovich became just the second player in school history to pass for more than 500 yards in a game, finishing his career with three-consecutive 500-yard games.

Upon his graduation, Rolovich spent time with both the Denver Broncos and Rhein Fire.

Smith (5-11, 193, Miami Jackson HS), the brother of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson, joins the Rush after spending last season with the af2's Bossier City Battle Wings where he caught 48 passes for 706 yards and 19 touchdowns in nine games.

The Rush roster now includes 27 players. Teams are allowed to bring 37 players to training camp in January, but must cut down to 24 by opening day.
