Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president & general manager Craig Brush, along with head coach Gerry Fleming announced today that forward Steve Saviano and goaltender Craig Kowalski have been assigned to the Everblades by the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League. The two additions bring the Everblades 2005-06 roster to 20.

Saviano and Kowalski both return to the Everblades for their second seasons of professional hockey. The 24-year-old Saviano turned heads in his rookie campaign last year tallying 52 points (14g, 38a) in 58 games with the Everblades. Saviano, who began the 2004-05 season with Lowell, notching an assist in six games, was a force in the post-season for the Everblades as well scoring four goals and adding 14 assists in 16 Everblades playoff games. Prior to joining the professional ranks the Reading, Massachusetts native competed for four years at the University of New Hampshire, where during his senior season he scored 49 points in 41 games on the way to being named the 2003-04 Hockey East Player of the Year.

Kowalski, an 8th round draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2000, returns to the Everblades after posting a 13-6-6 record with a 2.87 goals against average and a .906 save percentage in his 27 games played last year. The 24-year-old also posted a 3-0 record in his six playoff games during the 2005 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Prior to turning pro Kowalski played four seasons at Northern Michigan University where he compiled a 68-49-12 record in 132 career games. The Clinton Township, Michigan native posted his best numbers at Northern Michigan during the 2001-02 season when he collected 24 wins and posted a 2.35 GAA and a .916 save percentage.

"We are real happy to be able to bring back both Steve and Craig for this season." Fleming said. "Even though they were rookies last year, they both competed real hard and showed they belonged in the ECHL. We think that with a full professional season under their belts, there's no reason that both shouldn't be able to bring their game to the next level and be a real force for us this season."

Saviano and Kowalski become the eighth and ninth players returning from the 2004-05 season to be signed by the Everblades.

Everblades training camp opens Monday, October 10 at Germain Arena! The 'Blades kick-off the 2005-06 season on Friday, October 21! Visit www.floridaeverblades.com and www.germainarena.com for more information on ticket packages, pricing and upcoming Germain Arena events.
