Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY - The Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League announced on Wednesday plans to hold the sixth annual Affiliated Foods "Take School by Storm" rally on Wednesday, Oct. 12 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Kearney Event Center.
The team also announced that former University of Nebraska quarterback Scott Frost will be the featured speaker. Frost, who grew up in Wood River, was the starting quarterback for the Cornhuskers in 1996 and 1997. As a senior Frost led the Huskers to a 13-0 record and the team's third national championship in four years.
"Each year we always try and improve this event and make it more enjoyable for the students and their teachers," said Greg Shea, the Storm's vice president of operations. "Having Scott Frost come back to central Nebraska and inspire students with his story will be an exclamation point on this year's event."
The rally, which has been held each year since the Storm came to Kearney, is targeted toward Tri-City area students in fifth through ninth grades. In addition to Frost's message, students will enjoy activities throughout the morning including a Storm hockey scrimmage and activities from the YMCA, the Arbor Day Foundation, Rowe Sanctuary, Raptor Recovery, BMX bikers, the Tobacco Free Coalition, Charter Communications and more. The rally will conclude with snacks being distributed by Affiliated Foods vendors.
Admission is free to this event. Doors will open at 9 a.m. when students may begin taking part in the concourse activities.
For more information on the rally contact the Storm offices at (308) 338-8809 or send an e-mail to greg@stormhockey.com.
**Fuel Subsidy Program**
New to this year's rally is the Fuel Subsidy Program. As an additional incentive to offset rising fuel costs an anonymous donor is providing $3 back for every student in attendance. The money will be given to a non-profit foundation of each school's choice.
