Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Worcester, MA (September 6, 2005) - The Worcester Tornadoes today announced that the team has joined the American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts to provide aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Representatives of the Red Cross will be in attendance at Wednesday night's game to accept donations, and a silent auction will be held to aid the cause as well.

Fans may give donations to the Red Cross at the game, with all proceeds being used to provide immediate and long-term support to the devastated areas that Hurricane Katrina has affected. In recognition of their support, fans that make a minimum donation of five dollars will receive a free Tornadoes pennant. Fans that make a donation of twenty dollars or more will receive a free Tornadoes T-shirt in appreciation of their generosity. The T-shirts and pennants are provided courtesy of the Keystroke Consulting and the Tornadoes.

Fans will also be able to participate in a silent auction to benefit the relief effort. An autographed picture of Boston Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez will be up for bid, as will an autographed photo of Boston Celtics greats Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parrish.

"The Tornadoes have offered tremendous support to our local chapter from the onset of their inaugural season," said Nicole Valentine, director of public affairs and emergency services for the American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts. "Now, in the midst of our largest disaster relief operation in history, they have once again stepped up to the plate to offer their support. For this we are truly grateful."

"Tragedies like that which struck the Gulf Coast put in perspective what really is important," said general manager Mike Lieberman. "The Tornadoes family will play whatever part necessary to help the tremendous efforts of the Red Cross to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina."

The Tornadoes welcome the New Haven County Cutters to Worcester on Wednesday and Thursday, Games One and Two of the division series. This series is not only the first postseason in Tornadoes franchise history, but it also represents the first professional baseball playoff games played in Worcester in 71 years. Tickets for the playoffs are available at the Tornadoes office at 303 Main Street, over the phone by calling (508) 792-2288, or online by logging on to worcestertornadoes.com.
