Chiefs sign a pair of defensemen

Johnstown, PA (September 1, 2005) - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today, that they have signed defensemen Thierry Douville and Tyler Kindle.

Douville, 22, split last season between the Fresno Falcons and the Pee Dee Pride. The 6'5, 230 LBS native of St. Francois, Quebec was third in the ECHL and led all rookies with 316 PIM, including 30 major penalties. He also played three games in the AHL with the Worcester Ice Cats.

"Thierry was one of the toughest guys in the ECHL last season. He and Jonathan Tremblay fought in Pee Dee and it was a good go between both players," said Chiefs Vice-President and General Manager Toby O'Brien. "He is a big strong kid that can play the game well which gives us some added stability on the blue line.

Prior to turning professional, Douville played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey league, three with Baie-Comeau and his final season with Moncton. Douville had 1,334 PIM in 253 QMJHL games. He was the Philadelphia Flyers seventh round pick (208th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Kindle, 27, was 17th among ECHL defensemen last season in scoring with 7 goals and 34 points in 56 games with the Pee Dee Pride. The 6'0, 180 LBS native of Portage, Michigan began his professional career in 2003 with the Pensacola Ice Pilots where had seven goals and thirteen points in 36 games. He was traded to Trenton where he picked up 5 goals and 18 points in 28 games.

"Tyler is an offensive minded defenseman. He has a ton of skill and he will help the power play tremendously," O'Brien said.

In 127 career ECHL games, Kindle has 20 goals and 69 points. Kindle played four seasons with Wayne State University where he had 29 goals and 98 points in 140 games.
