New Jersey Cardinals News Release

Sean Danielson stole six bases to set a New Jersey Cardinals single-game record as New Jersey defeated the Aberdeen Ironbirds 5-1 Friday night at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey. The Cardinals improved to 28-30 with the win, while Aberdeen fell to 20-37. Michael Repole (5-1) picked up the victory with 2.2 perfect innings out of the bullpen and four New Jersey pitchers limited the Ironbirds to 3 hits as the Cardinals swept the two-game series. Starter Reid Hamblet (2-3) took the loss.

Aberdeen jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. With one out, Ryan Steinbach reached on a fielders choice and went to third on a single by Mark Fleisher. Steinbach scored one batter later with the games first run on passed ball by Craig Newton.

New Jersey took the lead in the bottom of the third with 3 runs off starter Reid Hamblet. Danielson led off with a single, stole second and third and scored on Donovan Solanos RBI single. Brandon Yarbrough walked, before Adam Rodgers lined a RBI single back up the middle for a 2-1 Cardinals lead. Yarbrough scored the third run when Yonathan Sivira grounded into a 3-6-3 double play.

Chad Gabriel singled, stole second, and scored on a throwing error by catcher Kyle Dahlberg in the bottom of the sixth to extend the New Jersey lead to 4-1. The Cardinals added an insurance run in the seventh on Gabriels RBI double. He finished 3-3 with an RBI.

Danielson, who now has 17 steals on the season, broke Esix Sneads 7-year old Cardinals record in the bottom of the 8th by swiping third base. Snead, now with the Richmond Braves (Atlanta Braves), stole 5 bags at the Sky on August 9, 1998 against the Jamestown Jammers (Florida Marlins).

New Jersey continues their home stand Saturday, August 20, 2005, with a two game weekend set with the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees). Game time is scheduled for 5:00. The Cardinals are set to start right hander Quinton Robertson, who is 0-2 with an ERA of 3.80. Saturday nights game also features an antique appraisal session for all ticket holders with Dr. Lori, a renowned appraiser. A Boy Scout Sleepover also follows the immediate conclusion of the game.
