Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - The San Diego Padres have switched catchers in their system, promoting Nick Hundley from Eugene of the Northwest League to Fort Wayne and sending Wizards catcher Jose Lobaton down to the Emeralds, effective today.

Hundley was drafted by San Diego in the second round (76th overall) in this year's June Amateur Draft out of the University of Arizona. He was originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2002 June Amateur Draft by the Florida Marlins system.

Hundley becomes the seventh 2005 draft pick to join the Wizards this year, following right-hander Josh Geer, left-hander Cesar Ramos, first baseman Mike Baxter and outfielders Josh Alley, Brian Cavanaugh and Drew Davidson.

Lobaton joined the Wizards on July 8 and in nine games he was hitting .176 with one double, one run batted in and two runs scored.

With the Emeralds, prior to his promotion, Hundley was hitting .250 in 43 games, including 40 at the catching position. The right-handed hitting Hundley led Eugene with seven home runs, scored 30 runs, had seven doubles, one triple and 22 runs batted in. Over his final 10 games in Eugene, he had scored seven runs, collected nine hits with a pair of home runs and three runs batted in.

Hundley led the Arizona Wildcats this year with 15 home runs and 42 walks in 59 games. He was second on the team with a .352 average, a .670 slugging percentage, 23 doubles, and 46 RBI. He was third on the team with 152 total bases.
