VB Dodgers can't handle Cards

August 14, 2005 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

Reid Gorecki drove in four runs to help the Palm Beach Cardinals to a 8-4 win over the Vero Beach Dodgers Sunday afternoon at Holman Stadium. That gave the Dodgers back-to-back losses for the first time since the first week of July. Xavier Paul had two hits including his 5th home run of the season in a losing cause. The Dodgers have a day off Monday, then begin a 3-game series in Daytona Tuesday night at 7:00 PM.

Gorecki knocked a 3-run homer to right field three batters into the game off starter Brian Pilkington to give the Cardinals an early 3-0 lead. Vero came back with back-to-back RBI doubles from Matt Kemp and Cory Dunlap in the first inning to make it 3-2. Paul's home run led off the third and tied the score.

Vero Beach left the bases full in both the 3rd and 5th innings, before Palm Beach regained the lead in the 7th off Jumbo Diaz, who took the loss. He allowed one unearned run, the first run he had surrendered in 8 appearances this year. The Cardinals put it away with a 4-run 8th inning to snap the Dodgers 8-series win streak.
