Round Rock Express News Release

(Round Rock, TX) - Over the last ten ballgames, the Oklahoma RedHawks have hit .380 as a team. They proved Saturday night at the Dell Diamond why they ran off a nine game winning streak, but couldn't make it ten as the Round Rock Express put away their division rival with an exciting 8-6 win.

Oklahoma threatened in the first three innings, but did not score as Round Rock infielders turned in two double plays, including a spectacular 3-6-1 double play in the first inning.

In the bottom of the third inning, 2B Brooks Conrad drilled a two-run double and 3B Mike Coolbaugh finished the inning with a sacrifice RBI to make it 3-0 E-Train.

Oklahoma got a solo homer from 1B Adrian Gonzalez, his third of the series, to cut the lead for Round Rock to 3-1.

In the fifth inning, the Express scored a couple more runs to make the score 5-1. Oklahoma scored a solo run in the sixth inning to make it 5-2.

In the seventh inning, after Conrad and DH Royce Huffman singled, Coolbaugh blasted his twenty-fifth homer of the year to the center field screen and the Express had an 8-2 lead, but a lead that was anything but comfortable.

That is because in the top of the eighth inning, Oklahoma put up a two-run double from Gonzalez and a two-run, Manny Alexander homer to cut the Round Rock lead to 8-6.

The Express could not get any eighth inning insurance, and in the ninth inning, after reliever Scott Strickland struck out the lead off hitter, pinch hitter Will Smith singled. Strickland then proceeded to strike out the next two he face to notch his second save and give the Express its first win in this series and its tenth in fourteen games against Oklahoma in 2005.

On Sunday at 7:05 PM, game three features a start for righty Brandon Duckworth. Oklahoma counters with right-hander Josh Rupe.
