SteelHounds Acquire All-Star With Buckeye Roots

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO -Youngstown SteelHounds Head Coach, Jean Laforest, announced today that the team has acquired center Chris Richards from the Austin Ice Bats in exchange for future considerations.

Richards, 29, was an all-star last season for the Ice Bats finishing the year with 72 points (18-54 - 72) and 64 penalty minutes in 59 games. His 54 assists and his plus 14 were both tops on the Ice Bats. Amongst league leaders, the Cornwall, Ontario native finished just outside the top 10 in scoring with 72 points and tied for third in the CHL with 54 assists. He also contributed with three shorthanded goals and four game winning goals.

"Chris is a solid addition to our team and is an established, proven player in the CHL," said Laforest. "He'll be our number one centerman and will add an offensive dimension to our team. In my discussions with Chris, it is clear he wants to win and competes hard every night which is what I demand and expect from my players."

The 5-10, 180-pound center returns to the state that saw him compile an outstanding collegiate career with the Ohio State Buckeyes (1995-99). Richards played in 151 career games with the Buckeyes scoring 43 goals with 90 assists.

Richards professional career has seen him play exclusively in the CHL dressing in 322 games notching 120 goals with 239 assists. Along with Austin, he has seen action with Indianapolis, Macon and New Mexico.
