SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Stephen Drew, a first-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2004 draft, will make his Double-A debut with the Tennessee Smokies Tuesday night against the Jacksonville Suns.

Drew put up impressive numbers for Lancaster over his 38 games there. While in the Class-A California League, he posted a .389 batting average, the highest in the league, homered 10 times and drove in 39 runs. The former shortstop and standout at Florida State University pieced together a 16-game hitting streak with the Jethawks from June 30 to July 17. Over that stretch, Drew had nine doubles and six homers.

At the time he was signed by the Diamondbacks, he was playing independent baseball in the Atlantic League for Camden. The first-round pick was batting a league-leading .427 for the Riversharks this year.

Drew is the younger brother current Dodgers' outfielder J.D. Drew. Both brothers played ACC baseball at FSU. J.D. began his career with the Cardinals organization and made his Major League debut in 1998 with St. Louis and stayed with the club for six seasons until joining the Braves in 2004. Drew is in his first year with the Dodgers.

While at Florida State, Stephen Drew earned All-America honors in 2004 and in each of his three seasons with the Seminoles. In his final season with FSU, drew notched a .344 average and an on-base percentage of .458 over 57 games.

The Smokies and the Suns start a three game series Tuesday at Smokies Park. First pitch is set for 7:15 . Tickets can be purchased by calling (865) 286-2300 or by ordering online at www.smokiesbaseball.com.
