Garciaparra to make rehab appearance with Diamond Jaxx

(Jackson, TN) July 29th- Chicago Cubs SS Nomar Garciaparra will begin a rehab assignment with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, the Double-A Southern League affiliate of the Cubs, on Saturday night July 30th at Pringles Park. The Diamond Jaxx will be hosting a 7:05 p.m. game against the Carolina Mudcats.

Garciaparra is rehabilitating a tore groin muscle suffered during his second at-bat of a game in St. Louis on April 20th. Garciaparra has appeared in just fourteen games with the Cubs this season. He is hitting .157 (8-51) with no homers and four RBI's.

A former first round pick of the Boston Red Sox in the 1994 draft, Garciaparra made his major league debut with the Red Sox in 1996. Since his debut, Garciaparra, who is a lifetime .320 hitter in the big leagues, has hit at least twenty homers in a season six times in his career. Garciaparra has also driven in at least one hundred runs four times and has hit .300 seven times in his career. He was traded from the Red Sox to Chicago, along with current Cub and former Diamond Jaxx OF Matt Murton in a four-team trade on July 31, 2004.
