Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

BURLINGTON, VT --- New Jersey's recent dominance of the Vermont Expos continued on Saturday night as the Cardinals pounded out 18 hits in a 10-1 New York-Penn League victory at Centennial Field.

With the win Saturday and an 11-3 victory over Vermont on Friday, New Jersey has now won the last eight games against the Expos and 14 of the last 15 dating back to August 17, 2001.

Saturday's game was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Cardinals scored seven runs on seven hits. The first three scored on a two-out bases-loaded double to rightcenter from Tyler Greene. New Jersey then tacked on four unearned runs after a fielding error by Expos third baseman Brandon Conway on RBI singles from Brandon Yarbrough and Yonathan Sivira and a two-run double from Chad Gabriel for a 7-0 lead.

Those were more than enough runs for Cardinal starter Nick Webber (3-1), who allowed just two hits with four walks and four strikeouts over seven innings for the victory. Expos starter Craig Stammen (2-3) allowed seven runs (three earned) on 11 hits over 4.2 innings to take the loss.

Yarbrough was 4-for-4 with one walk, three runs and an RBI, while Carlos De La Cruz had four hits and Gabriel was 3-for-5 for New Jersey (15-17). Drew McMillan spoiled the shutout for the Cardinals in the bottom of the ninth inning when he hit a leadoff homer to left off reliever Jeremy Zick for the Expos only run of the game.

Vermont (8-24) will wrap up the six-game homestand on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. when the Expos host the final game of the three-game series with New Jersey. It is True Value Night at the ballpark and there will be team photos for all in attendance and "Have A Catch" on the field following the game.
