Hagerstown Suns News Release
The Stadium Tavern won top honors for having the area's best chicken wings Friday night at the Hagerstown Suns 1st ever "Wing Fling" event at Municipal Stadium. The wing tasting competition was as hot and fierce as some of the wings themselves. Texas Roadhouse won for "Best Booth Display."
Votes were tabulated for "best chicken wings" by counting the number of tasting coupons each restaurant or caterer received through the night. Each participant received free tasting coupons as they entered the ballpark.
In the Wing Eating competition, Jim Stewart devoured 8 wings in less than 60 seconds to take home the championship. "My face is on fire, man!" exclaimed Stewart after winning the event.
Texas Roadhouse was chosen as having the "Best Booth Display." Leiter's Catering finished 2nd in that category.
"This was a fantastic success for a 1st-year event," said Suns General Manager Kurt Landes. "All of the participants were very enthusiastic and each of the restaurants have already made the commitment to come back for our 2nd annual Wing Fling next year."
Over 200 chicken wing fans braved humid temperatures and even hotter wings at the first-time event. Seven different local restaurants provided the chicken wings: Big Bats Café, Buffalo Wild Wings, Longhorn Steakhouse, Leiter's Catering, The Ground Round, Texas Roadhouse and the Stadium Tavern.
The Hagerstown Suns Wing Fling was presented by WQCM 94.3fm and Antietam Cable Advertising. The band Crunch Mob performed hits from the 80's and 90's for the crowd throughout the evening.
The Hagerstown Suns are the single A affiliate of the New York Mets and are owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties.
