July 8, 2005 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release

SPOKANE, WA - The Spokane Indians (10-8) and Eugene Emeralds (10-8) combined for just 10 hits, but the Indians made the most of their five in a 5-4 victory over the Emeralds. The win gave the Indians a 3-2 series win, and tied the season series at five games apiece. The two teams have now played all ten of their scheduled meetings.

Lizahio Baez accounted for 60% of the Indians offense on the night, posting three of the team's five hits and driving in three of the team's runs. Baez, who was 2-for-5 with a homerun and three RBI in his Indians debut last night, outdid himself tonight. Trailing 2-0 heading into the 3rd inning, the Indians erupted for four runs in the inning. Baez provided the spark, with a two-run homerun to give the Indians the lead 4-2 after three frames.

Eugene responded with a pair of runs in the 4th to tie the game as the rain began to fall. While showers threatened the remainder of the game, Baez gave the Indians the lead once again. Leading off the 6th inning, Baez hit his second homerun of the night to win the game. Since joining the Indians, Baez is now 5-for-9 with three homeruns and six RBI.

The homerun off of Arnold Hughley (1-1) gave the Indians the win and helped Nate Fogle (1-0) earn his first professional win. Jon Wilson pitched a perfect 9th inning to record his third save of the season.

Following the game, the Texas Rangers announced that Indians second baseman Johnny Washington has been promoted to Clinton to join the LumberKings in the Midwest League. Replacing Washington on the Indians roster will be shortstop David Peterson, who was signed as a free agent by the Rangers. Peterson, who played his collegiate ball at George Fox University in Oregon, will join the Indians on the road in Pasco, Washington versus the Tri-City Dust Devils

A rain soaked crowd of 4,838 was on hand to watch Baez's heroics in the series finale. The Indians will take a short trip down U.S. 395 for a quick three-game series versus the Tri-City Dust Devils starting tomorrow night. The Indians hold a slim one-game lead over Tri-City in the NWL East. If you can't make the 2-hour drive down to Pasco to see the Indians in action, you can catch all the action on KJRB AM 790 the Fan with the "Voice of the Indians" Bob Robertson. All three games start at 7:15 PM, with the On-Deck Show starting at 6:45 PM. You can also listen live on the Indians website by logging on and clicking the "Listen Live" link on the left side.
