Quad Cities swings big in the third and coasts to win over Rattlers

DAVENPORT, IA -- The Swing of the Quad Cities scored seven times in the bottom of the third inning and cruised to a 9-3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wednesday night at John O'Donnell Stadium. Mike Ferris homered twice and drove in three runs. Swing starting pitcher Dennis Dove went the distance allowing three runs on six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Quad Cities (42-34 overall, 6-1 second half) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Eric Verbryke doubled to start the inning, moved to third on a fly ball to right, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jake Mullinax. Ferris followed with his tenth home run of the season.
The Swing scored seven times in the bottom of the third to go in front 9-0. Juan Lucena singled in the first run. A bases loaded walk to Verbryke forced in the second run. A throwing error by pitcher Aaron Jensen on a pick-off play to first allowed two more runs to score. A base hit by Spencer Wyman drove in another run. Then, Jensen recorded the first out of the inning. Next, Ferris drilled his second home run of the night, a two-run homer to right, and the Swing went up by nine runs.
Mike Wilson answered with a two-run homer to left in the top of the third inning to get the Rattlers on the board. Matt Tuiasosopo had a two-out RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to get Wisconsin to within six. That was as close as Wisconsin (40-37, 1-6) would get. Dove retired the final ten batters of the game for his sixth win of the season.
The Rattlers continue their road trip with a four game series at Fort Wayne, Indiana against the Wizards. Game one of that series is Thursday night. Wisconsin plans to send Julio Santiago (0-2, 5.84ERA) to the mound. Fort Wayne will send Joel Santo (2-4, 5.03ERA) to the hill. Game time is 7:00pm.
