Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Hall At It Again
After being shut out for eight innings, the Binghamton Mets rallied for four runs in the ninth, capped off by Victor Hall's walk-off, three-run homer, beating the Erie SeaWolves 4-3 at NYSEG Stadium Sunday. Both B-Mets wins in the three-game series came on ninth-inning walk-off hits by Hall, who finished the day 2 for 4. Joe Hietpas also had two hits and David Bacani drove in a run for Binghamton, which has won four of its last six.

Last At-Bat Heroics
Sunday's victory was Binghamton's seventh walk-off win this season, with Hall becoming the first B-Met to pick up two walk-off hits in 2005. Three of those walk-off wins have come in the bottom of the ninth. Hall is the third B-Met to hit a walk-off home run this year, joining Mike Jacobs (5/27 vs. TRE) and Bacani (4/26 vs. POR).

Shut Out? Think Again
With their four-run ninth Sunday, the B-Mets avoided being shut out for the second time this season. The only other shutout thrown at the B-Mets came during the fourth game of the season April 10th at Akron, when they lost 9-0, meaning the B-Mets have gone 68 consecutive games with at least one run scored. Every other Eastern League team's been shut out at least twice this season.

Welcome Back Chase
Sunday, Chase Lambin doubled and scored during Binghamton's four-run ninth and is 5 for 12 with a homer and two doubles in three games since returning to the B-Mets after a six-game trial with AAA Norfolk. Including his six games with the Tides, Chase is 13 for his last 31 (.419), hitting safely in eight of his last nine games.

Scouting The Rock Cats
New Britain's been in last place in the EL North for most of the season, but they've made several changes since Binghamton split a series with them last week, adding starting pitchers Glen Perkins and Errol Simonitsch and outfielder Denard Span, all of whom are listed among the top 30 prospects in the Minnesota Twins organization by Baseball America, giving the team four of the organization's top 30 prospects.

On The Mound

RHP Brian Bannister (9-1, 1.73)
Last Time Out: Wed. @ NB (W): 7 IP, R, 0 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 6 K (W 3-1)...Brian won his fourth straight decision, allowing just an unearned run in the fifth on a throwing error by third baseman Jay Caligiuri. All four hits Brian allowed were singles and he retired eight of his last nine before departing. Brian hasn't given up an earned run in his last 20 innings, spanning three starts.

This Season: Brian's worked at least seven innings in his last four starts and has lasted five in all but one of his 15 starts this season. The righthander's allowed two runs or less in 12 of his outings and has walked two or fewer 14 times. Opponents are batting just .089 (4 for 45) with men in scoring position and are just 1 for 22 with men in scoring position and two out. Brian's 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA in seven NYSEG Stadium starts. In five June starts, Brian is 3-0 with a 0.97 ERA. His only loss was eight starts ago, May 14th at Norwich.

Against New Britain: Wednesday's outing was Brian's first against the Rock Cats this season.

Background: The 24-year-old Arizonan is in his third professional season after being drafted by the Mets in the seventh round in 2003 out of the University of Southern California. Brian made eight starts for Binghamton in 2004 after being named a Florida State League All-Star at High-A St. Lucie. The son of Floyd Bannister, who pitched in the majors for 15 seasons with six different teams, Brian is an accomplished photographer with his own studio in Arizona. He has done photo shoots for ESPN The Magazine and Arizona governor Janet Napolitano. Brian's brother Brett also pitched at USC and was selected by Seattle in the 19th round of this year's draft.
