New Jersey Cardinals News Release


This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals defeated the Staten Island Yankees 6-4 in the final game of their 3 game set. The Cardinals saw their record improve to 3-3 while the Yankees dropped to 3-3 as well. Michael Repole earned his first win of the season (1-0) for the Cardinals, while Justin Berg picked up his first loss (0-1). Matt Trent picked up his 2nd save of the season. The Yankees struck first with 3 runs in the 2nd. The Cardinals responded by loading the bases with 1 out and Adam Morris making his 1st start for the Cardinals ripped a 2 run single down the right field line to drive in Chad Gabriel and Yonathan Sivira. The game saw four scoreless innings after the Yankees added their 4th run in the 3rd inning. In the bottom of the 8th the Cardinals scored 4 runs as Jose Delgado walked and Casey Rowlett and Brandon Yarbrough both singled, driving in Delgado and Yarbrough advanced to second on a throwing error by the right fielder which allowed Rowlett to score. Matt Wilkerson delivered the big blow in the inning hitting his 1st professional home run, a 2 run shot down the right field line.

The Cardinals bullpen proved to be the difference as Jeremy Zick, Cory Meacham. Michael Repole, and Matthew Trent combined for 6 scoreless innings allowing only 2 base runners the rest of the game.

The Cardinals will travel to Brooklyn on Monday to begin a three game set at 7:00 pm, The Cardinals will return to Skylands Park on Tuesday June 28th, to take on Brooklyn at 7:15 in the middle game of the series.
