Cards take series from Crosscutters

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals beat the Williamsport Crosscutters (Pittsburg Pirates) 4-2, to win the series 2-1. The Cardinals improved their record to 2-1 while the Crosscutters dropped to 1-2. Justin Brown (1-0) picked up the victory for the Cardinals, with Dave Davidson (0-1) taking the loss. Matt Trent picked up his 1st save of the season.

The Crosscutters struck first with 2 runs in the 1st. The Cardinals loaded the bases with 2 outs on an infield single by Chad Gabriel and then Yonathan Sivira then singled on a slow roller to the second baseman who threw wildly to first allowing 2 runs to score.

The Cardinals took the lead with 2 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Casey Rowlett led off the inning with a double and then stole 3rd and scored on Jon Skorupskis single to center. Skorupski later scored on a wild pitch to give the Cardinals a 4-2 lead.

Rowlett and Chad Gabriel paced the Cardinals offense each going 2-3. Rowlett also added 2 runs. Brown pitched 5 solid innings giving up 1 earned run on 4 hits.

The Cardinals will travel to Staten Island on Friday to begin a three game set at 7:10 pm, the Cards and Yanks will also play Saturday at Staten Island at 7:10. The Cardinals will return to Skylands Park on Sunday June 26th, to take on Staten Island at 5:00 to conclude the series.
