Monarchs waive Giuliana Mendiola

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., May 8, 2005 - The Sacramento Monarchs today announced that the organization has waived guard Giuliana Mendiola.

In 2004 Mendiola signed with Sacramento as a free agent and averaged 1.7 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 6.5 minutes in six games played with the Monarchs. This season Mendiola played in one preseason game with the franchise, playing eight minutes and scoring two points against the Chinese National Team.

The Monarchs camp roster now stands at eighteen, with eight returning players (three currently not with team), three WNBA veterans, three draft picks and four free agents.

The Sacramento Monarchs will play their final home preseason game on Thursday, May 12, versus the Phoenix Mercury at 7 p.m. at ARCO Arena. The first of seventeen regular-season home games will be played on Saturday, June 4, at ARCO Arena when the Monarchs host the Los Angeles Sparks at 1:00 p.m. in a game to be nationally televised on ABC. Sacramento's regular season will begin on the road on Saturday, May 21, at the Phoenix Mercury at 7 p.m. at America West Arena.
