Hawaiian puch two: Santos homers twice for Royals

Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA – Benny Agbayani, there’s a new “Hawaiian Punch” in Omaha. Chad Santos – a native of Honolulu who still resides in Hawaii during the off-season – belted two home runs to help the Royals coast to their biggest win of the season. The 10-2 victory over Memphis halted Omaha’s losing streak at three games and snapped the Redbirds’ six-game winning streak and might have had some of the 1,394 fans on hand remembering 2003 when Agbayani played for Omaha.

Santos had flied out to deep left field three times in the late innings of the first two games of the series, on rather chilly nights with the wind blowing in. But on a warmer evening Wednesday and with the wind blowing out of Rosenblatt Stadium, the 24-year old first baseman hit a solo shot in the second inning to put the Royals ahead 1-0.

Then with two outs in the fifth and Omaha already on top 5-1, Santos chased Memphis starter Nerio Rodriguez (0-3) with a tremendous three-run clout just to the left of the batterÂ’s eye in center.

Santos leads the Royals with six home runs and his four-RBI night gives him 16 for the season, which is tied for the club lead with Matt Diaz. Diaz, who returned to the Omaha lineup tonight after playing in six games with Kansas City, was hit by pitches from Rodriguez in both the fourth and fifth innings and scored each time. Aaron Guiel also scored in the fifth after being plunked by the wild Redbirds right-hander, who gave up eight runs in four-and-two-thirds innings.

Guiel had two hits and scored two runs, while Chris Truby had two hits, two RBI and scored twice and Paul Phillips had two hits and knocked in a pair of runs as the Royals matched their highest run total of the season.

Ryan Jensen (1-2) gave the Royals a quality start, giving up just two runs on six hits over six innings. The 29-year old righty walked two and struck out three. Justin Huisman scattered four hits and a couple walks over the final three innings, with one “K”, to record his first save.

The series finale vs. Memphis is Thursday at 12:05: RH Chris Gissell (2-2, 3.19) vs. LH Chris George (2-0, 5.47). Air-time is 11:45 on Magic 1490 and www.Oroyals.com.
