Clapp and Kusiewicz join Cracker-Cats

(Edmonton, AB) – Cracker-Cats Field Manager Terry Bevington confirmed that infielder Stubby Clapp and left-hander Mike Kusiewicz will be members of the Cracker-Cats for their inaugural season.

Clapp, 32, spent the 2004 campaign with TorontoÂ’s Double and Triple-A clubs. He began the season with Double-A New Hampshire, where he hit .226 (12-for-53) with one home run and nine RBI. Upon his promotion to Triple-A Syracuse, the versatile Clapp hit .287 (25-for-87) with six RBI. The native of Windsor, Ontario was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 36th round of the 1996 draft. He steadily progressed through the Cardinals system and reached the Major Leagues in 2001 where he hit .200 (5-for-25) with one RBI in 23 games. Clapp was a member of CanadaÂ’s Olympic team in 2004, and is also a member of CanadaÂ’s senior national team which earned a berth in the Senior World Cup to be played in September.

Kusiewicz, (pronounced KUH-seh-vich) 28, spent his 2004 season with Milwaukee’s Single-A affiliate in High Desert. The southpaw posted a 4.14 ERA (37.0 IP – 17 ER) with 44 strikeouts in 26 relief appearances. Over his nine-year career, the Montreal born Kusiewicz has made three stops at Triple-A: twice with Pawtucket as a member of the Red Sox organization and once with Sacramento as a member of the Oakland organization. The veteran has posted a career 58-56 record with an impressive 3.32 ERA and 897 strikeouts in 1061.1 innings of work. In addition to being a 2004 Olympian, Kusiewicz is a current member of Canada’s senior national team.
