JOLIET, IL – The Joliet JackHammers are auctioning on eBay an opportunity for baseball fans to play with some of baseballs greatest players. The JackHammers will be hosting the Budweiser I-55 Classic on Saturday, July 30 at 7:05 p.m. at Silver Cross Field in Joliet’s City Center. The game will feature former Chicago Cubs players versus former St. Louis Cardinals players. Fans will get to bid on one roster spot for each team.
The auction will open Monday, April 18, at www.ebay.com. The starting bid for each of the roster spots will be $250. Bidding will close after eight-days on Monday, April 25.
The two winners will be part of all of the weekend festivities and will be treated like a VIP. They will each receive an authentic game jersey with their name, a personalized locker and the opportunity to display their baseball skills in front of a sold-out crowd at Silver Cross Field. In addition, each of the winners will receive a two night stay at Argosy Empress Casino Hotel, one spot in the golf outing on Friday, July 29 and a ticket to the playerÂ’s reception on July 29 at Argosy Empress Casino Grand Ballroom.
If necessary, the individuals with the winning bids are responsible for their airfare and car rental. The JackHammers will provide transportation to and from all the events.
The rosters for the Budweiser I-55 Classic continue to grow. Currently the Cubs roster includes Andre Dawson (Cubs: Â’87-Â’92), right-handed pitcher Lee Smith (Cubs: Â’80-Â’87 & Cardinals: Â’90-Â’93), right-handed pitcher Milt Pappas (Cubs: Â’71-Â’73), outfielder Bob Dernier (Cubs: Â’84-Â’87), catcher/third baseman/outfielder Keith Moreland (Cubs: Â’82-Â’87). The Cardinals roster includes first baseman Jack Clark (Cardinals: Â’85-Â’87), left-handed pitcher John Tudor (Cardinals: Â’85-Â’88), outfielder Tito Landrum (Cardinals: Â’80-Â’88) and utility player Tom Lawless (Cardinals: Â’85-Â’90). Media and corporate clients will also be added to the rosters.
The JackHammers are scheduled to begin the 2005 season on Friday, May 20 at 7:05 p.m. versus the Gary Southshore Railcats at Silver Cross Field in JolietÂ’s City Center. Individual game tickets are now available on-line at www.jackhammerbaseball.com and at the Silver Cross Field box office. Further, the JackHammers currently have full season tickets, mini-plan ticket packages and group ticket packages available for purchase.
