Gorowsky Named to All-USHL Rookie Team

Sioux Falls Stampede forward, Tom Gorowsky was named to the All-USHL Rookie Team for the 2004-05 season. The Lino Lakes, MN native led the Stampede in assists with 35 and powerplay goals (7). He finished second on the team in scoring with 53 points (18g, 35a) in 54 games. He was selected #1 overall by the Stampede in the 2004 USHL Entry Draft and will suite up with former Stampede star and 2003-04 USHL Rookie-of-the-Year, Matt Ford, next year at the University of Wisconsin.

In other league news…

Omaha netminder, Jeff Lerg was named Let’s Play Hockey USHL “Player-of-the-Year”. Lerg set a new USHL record for wins in a single season by a goaltender (36) while posting a league best 2.16 GAA. Not surprisingly, Lerg was also named USHL Goaltender-of-the-Year.

CCM “Forward-of-the-Year” went to Dan Riedel of the Lincoln Stars. Riedel finished the season as the league’s top scorer with 81 points (30g, 51a).

Brett Motherwell of the Omaha Lancers earned “Defensive Player-of-the-Year” honors after finishing second in the league in defenseman scoring with 38 points (5g, 33a).

The USHL “Rookie-of-the-Year” award went to Des Moines Buccaneer, Chad Rau, who was second in the league in scoring and led all rookies in scoring with 71 points (31g, 40a) in 57 games played.

Mark Carlson of Cedar Rapids was named USHL “Coach-of-the-Year.” Carlson led the RoughRiders to a 42-13-5 record and a share of the Anderson Cup. The Roughriders set team records for wins (42), points (89) and goals (229) in a season. Omaha Head Coach/GM, Mike Hastings was named “General Manager-of-the-Year.” Hastings led the Lancers to a 41-12-7 record, a share of the Anderson Cup and the #1 seed in the West Division playoffs. This marks the third time Hastings has received the award. He also received the award for the 1996-97 season and the 2001-02 season.

The Waterloo Black Hawks were named “2004-05 Organization-of-the-Year.” The Hawks have been honored with the award two out of the last three seasons.
