Isotopes hire organist for 2005
March 29, 2005 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Isotopes Park will feature a live organist who will play during Isotopes home games during the 2005 season. The announcement was made by Isotopes General Manager John Traub.
Stu MacAskie, one of New Mexico's busiest and most successful jazz musicians, will make his Isotopes Park debut during Major League Weekend this Friday and Saturday afternoons.
"We're excited to bring the traditional sound of a live organist to the stadium," stated Traub. "Hearing the organist play before and during a game is what a lot of us grew up with. It's one of those classic traditions that just reminds you of a ballpark."
MacAskie has a diverse musical background, including receiving his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Indiana University in 1987. He was a member of the New York City jazz community from 1989-1997, as he played at many of Manhattan's most popular jazz rooms including Fat Tuesday's, Visione's, The Squire and Augie's. He also performed at the Rainbow Room, Sardi's, Windows on the World, Tavern on the Green, the Waldorf-Astoria, Don't Tell Mama, S.O.B.'s, the Lone Star, and Manny's Car Wash. He also toured with the Ringling Brothers Circus and the Artie Shaw Orchestra.
MacAskie performs up and down the Rio Grande Valley with occasional guest spots in Phoenix and Los Angeles. In Albuquerque, he has appeared at The Outpost Performance Space, Summerfest, Anderson Valley Vineyards, The Martini Grill, the Cooperage, and at every major hotel in town. He also serves as the Music Director for Albuquerque's First Church of Religious Science.
Traub added, "We've heard a lot from our fans about how they'd love to have the live organist like the Dukes used to have. We're real happy to be able to add this to the great atmosphere at Isotopes Park."
The musical entertainment at Isotopes Park will feature a combination of MacAskie's organ music and the recorded pop music which has been played during the Isotopes' first two seasons.
