Bonecrusher Smith to be in attendance on Saturday

FLORENCE, SC – The Pee Dee Pride announced today that former heavyweight champion of the world James “Bonecrusher” Smith will be in attendance at this Saturday’s game against the South Carolina Stingrays. Smith will drop the ceremonial puck prior to the start of the game, and will sign autographs on the concourse during the first intermission.

Smith, a native of Magnolia, N.C., won the World Boxing Association (WBA) title in 1986 by defeating Tim Witherspoon, then lost it to Mike Tyson the following year. His last fight was a loss to Larry Holmes on June 18, 1999 in Fayetteville, N.C. Smith completed his professional career with a record of 44-17-1. Thirty-two of his 44 career wins were by knockout.

Pee Dee is home for a pair of games this weekend. Saturday, the Pride host the South Carolina Stingrays in their first meeting since last FridayÂ’s fight-filled contest. ItÂ’s the PrideÂ’s annual Mascot Night. Local mascots will be in attendance during the game, and during the first intermission, they will square off in the annual Mascot Hockey game.

Sunday, the Pride host the Augusta Lynx in a 2:30 p.m. matinee. ItÂ’s another Sunday KidsÂ’ Day at the LionÂ’s Den, with all 200 and 400 level seats just $2.50 for kids 12 and under. In addition, kidsÂ’ meals (hot dog, potato chips, soda) are available for an additional $2.50.
