Maxime Boisclair of the Saguenéens and Josh Tordjman of the Tigres get weekly honours in the QMJHL

LONGUEUIL, Monday January 10th 2005 (QMJHL) Today, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League named its offensive and defensive players of the week for the period stretching from Monday, December 27th 2004, to Sunday, January 9th 2005.

After earning the title of Offensive Player of the Month for December 2004 in the QMJHL, left-winger Maxime Boisclair, of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, was named Offensive Player of the week in the QMJHL. Boisclair was preferred to Yannick Tifu (6-7-6-13) of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Benoît Doucet (7-6-4-10) of the Victoriaville Tigres and Guillaume Latendresse (7-5-6-11) of the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Between December 27th and January 9th, Boisclair totalled 14 points, including 10 goals, in only 7 games. In addition, this nineteen year-old left-winger scored the winning goal in each one of his teams 4 wins since December 27th.

Boisclair also contributed to 14 of the 24 goals that were scored by the Saguenéens in their last 7 games (for a total of 58.3% of his teams goals). In fact, Boisclair scored at least 1 goal in every one of his last 6 games.

Furthermore, in 5 games on the road between December 27th and January 9th, Boisclair maintained a record of 9 goals and 2 assists. In fact, his best performance of the last two weeks was 3 goals and 1 assist in an 8-5 loss against the Rimouski Océanic.

Boisclair also registered two two-goal performances in games against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and the Lewiston MAINEiacs. One of his most important goals was the one scored in the second period of the game against the Moncton Wildcats on January 27th, which became the winning goal in a 3-1 win of the Saguenéens.

Thanks to these performances, Boisclair is now second in the scorers ranking of the QMJHL with 65 points in 42 games. He stands right behind Sidney Crosby, of the Rimouski Océanic, who has 81 points in 37 games.

As for Boisclairs team, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens (61 points in 42 games), they have preceded the Moncton Wildcats (60 points in 43 games) in the overall standings of the QMJHL and are currently in first position in the overall standings. Maxime Boisclair and the Saguenéens will be back in Chicoutimi on Wednesday, January 12th 2005, to play against the Moncton Wildcats in a game for the first position of the overall standings.

As for the QMJHL Defensive Player of the week, the award was given to goaltender Josh Tordjman, of the Victoriaville Tigres, who allowed his team to stay unbeaten in its last six games (5-0-1).

In fact, during these 6 games, Tordjman registered an unbeaten record of 5 wins, no loss and 1 tie game. Between December 27th and January 9th, Tordjman faced 33.4 shots per game. His save efficiency was at .926 and his average was at 2.47.

Also, on January 7th, Tordjman registered his 4th shutout of the season when he stopped 38 shots in a game against the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Here, let us mention that Tordjmans team, the Victoriaville Tigres, is currently in a competition for a spot in the playoffs. During the week-end, thanks to the fact that they were unbeaten in their last 6 games, the Tigres gained two positions in the overall standings of the QMJHL and are now in 12th position.

Earlier this season, Tordjman was named QMJHL Defensive Player of the Week for the period stretching from November 29th to December 5th.

In the voting, Tordjman was chosen over defenseman Alexandre Picard (6-2-1-3) and goaltender Jason Churchill (record of 5-1-0 in 6 games, 348.39 minutes played, average of 2.07, efficiency percentage of 0.934) of the Halifax Mooseheads. Tordjman was also chosen over defenseman Mario Scalzo Jr (6-4-6-10) who was traded to the Rimouski Océanic this week by the Tigres.

The next QMJHL Players of the week awards will be announced on Monday January 17th.
